  • Why I <3 Call of Duty 4

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m a chick. And yes, I like to play froo-froo games like Viva Pinata and Animal Crossing. But right now, my very favorite game is Call of Duty 4. I’ve been playing a lot more since a friend introduced me to the Headquarters playlist (thanks Covie!), which is like capture the flag on crack. I know I’m rare, because if I play in the afternoons (nap time for the kids), the conversations usually go something like this:

lilkid94 (obviously 14 years old or younger): Mrs. K. Nice Guy? (kid obviously didn’t get through Hooked on Phonics.) What the @#$%? You must be gay, you @#$%^.
me: no, my tag would be gay if I was a guy, but I’m not.
    lilkid94: wha???? you… you’re a … GIRL??? Holy !@#$%^ *head explodes*
at least 5 other people in room: a GIRL!! Playing Call of DUTY!!! *heads explode*

  • Geometry Wars 2: So Satisfying

After several days of grinding away at Blue Dragon, and the disappointment of reaching the ending and realizing that the story was not one worth playing again, I needed something to cheer me up.

Enter Geometry Wars 2. I am a big fan of the first Geometry Wars, despite my inability to break the million points barrier (my high score is 929795). So when Geo Wars 2 came out for Xbox Live Arcade on Wednesday, I downloaded the trial immediately to play it (seriously, at about 8:00 am when I first got up).  On my very first playthrough, I had over 2 million points, and spent the rest of the day grinning about how fun it was.

It took less than a day to convince the Mr to spend his well-earned Points on the game, and already I’m incredibly addicted to it. The six different game modes are each unique and very fun, the riciculously high score possibilities make the game quite satisfying, and the skill-based achievements make the game worth playing over and over.

I think my favorite part of this new version is the addition of geoms. These are little green gems dropped by enemies after they die, which increase the score multiplier when collected. No longer is the multiplier linked to the number of enemies killed since the last respawn. This means that the multiplier continues to grow, even over subsequent deaths, making huge scores possible (and by huge, I mean billions).

The multiplayer mode is also quite fun. I got my 4-year old to play some co-op with me this morning, and he really enjoyed it (but not as much as playing by himself and setting off bombs). Up to 4 people can play on one box at one time in versus, and 2 people can play co-op in any of the 6 game modes.

Geometry Wars 2 is exactly what I like in a game sequel. It is similar to the first in gameplay and fun, but with added perks and new skills to utilize to keep getting those high scores. Plus, the achievements are more action-based this time – perform a certain action (like flying against every inch of the walls in Pacifism mode to unlock Wax On) to unlock the ‘chieve.  Now I’m off to try and finish Sequence mode, which is the real challenge in this game.

  • Too Many Good Games…

The KniceGuy Household xbox360 attachment rate increased over the weekend. Again. Every time we have a family event (in this case, it was a celebration of 7 years of marriage for Mr & Mrs KniceGuy), we have to buy a game or two to celebrate.  We thought about trading in a few games, but then we went through our entire library and couldn’t find a single game we didn’t want to keep playing. If I counted correctly, we’re up to 26 games now, counting two copies of Call of Duty 4 so both of us could play online together.

When we went to GameStop to buy PGR4 and Bioshock (both used) and preorder Fable 2, I caught myself saying “There are too many good games coming out!” If I was made of money and time, I would have preordered Fallout 3 and Infinite Undiscovery on the spot. I find myself organizing my time based on what game will be coming out. It’s a great problem for gamers these day – too many great games that make it hard to choose what to play.

So here’s MrsKniceGuy’s schedule of games for the next few months:
    1. Finish Blue Dragon.
    2. Finish Mass Effect playthrough #4 on Insanity (I’ve already got my level 60 Vanguard, it shouldn’t take long now).
    3. Trade “the Allies” Mass Effect for Lost Odyssey.
    4. Spend days of life (and several boxes of kleenex if the GamerchiX are right) playing Lost Odyssey.
    5. Play the Fable 2 pub games in August while waiting impatiently for October 21.
    6. Rent Infinite Undiscovery on September 1, and decide whether to buy it.
    7. Preorder Fallout 3 after a pay day in September for the October 8 release.

And see? I completely forgot Bioshock, PGR4, more COD4 online, Geometry Wars 2, and about half a dozen other games I would really love to play. Like I said, there are too many good games out these days. But I won’t complain.

I’m sure MrKniceGuy has a completely different list – and if his response to playing PGR4 yesterday is any indication, I bet it will involve a lot of motorcycle racing.

So, what games are you currently enjoying or looking forward to? I’d love to add more to the plethora of gamer goodness on the schedule.
